The gaming landscape has changed dramatically in recent years and is seeing a rise in popularity thanks to the rise of mobile gaming. Not only has mobile gaming changed the way we play our favorite games, but it has made gaming more accessible and closed demographic gaps.

In fact, what it is to be a ‘gamer’ has been entirely redefined. Previous stereotypes are no longer relevant as studies show that women account for 52% of the gaming audience, largely thanks to mobile games.

There is no doubt that mobile gaming is about to become even more exciting in the future. Let’s see what we can expect for the future.

Mobile Revolution

Mobile games will continue to innovate and diversify, as every year new and improved smartphones are released. These devices come packed full of advanced features that enhance the gaming experience.

Smartphones such as the Sony Xperia 1 IV, while not specifically designed for gaming, are taking immersive gameplay to new heights. This is packed full of features such as a sharp 4K screen and continuous optical zoom.

Crossovers

Crossovers between TV and gaming are becoming more and more popular. You can now find games inspired by television programmes like Deal or No Deal bingo that reinvigorate interest around both platforms.

Even 90s shows are showing up in gaming for a nostalgic blast from the past like Buffy the Vampire Slayer game, available on PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

VR and AR

Imagine gaming where you’re not just watching but actively participating in a whole new world. That’s the magic of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Multiplayer VR games now mean that players can interact in the same virtual space and are revolutionising game design and storytelling

AR combines the gaming world with the real world to create imaginative and interactive game experiences. Popular games such as Pokémon GO have an AR reality feature that allows Pokémon to appear anchored in your real-world environment. All you need to do is walk up to it with your camera at the ready and go!

Safety Features

As online games become more realistic, game developers have started to introduce safety features to play responsibly. VR and AR games are exciting, but they may detract from threats in the real world, so often they come with safety disclaimers when you log on.

For gambling and bingo apps, there are safety features that can limit the amount you spend online. There are often reminders that pop up every few hours that alert players to how long they have been playing and advise them to take a break from their screens.
