The gigantic Tesla Gigafactory in Nevada has been kinda, sorta open for a few months now, but there has yet to be a grand opening.
That will change on July 29th when company officials will gather at the site for a ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the battery plant.
Many consider the Tesla Gigafactory to be pertinent to the company’s overall production of its new Model 3, the first mass-produced, affordable vehicle from Elon Musk and company.
Tesla says that at the Gigafactory’s peak output in 2020, the plant is expected to produce 35 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity per year, exceeding the entire world’s lithium ion battery production in 2013.
