New Lexicon Means New Products
On May 19, 2014, “Hashtag” aka “#”, selfie, tweep, crowdfunding, big data, gamification, steampunk and 150 other new words were added to the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate English Dictionary for 2014. This is the version college kids, believe it or not, will be lugging to dorm rooms this fall.
Many of these words relate to new products and markets created recently. Perhaps one of the most popular and explosive social trends is the taking of “selfies” and sharing them on the Internet. Older smartphones allow people to take “selfies” but a button has to be pushed to redirect the camera at the user’s face.
Capturing & Augmenting Your Best “Selfies” for Friends & Posterity
Sony has come up with a mid-range “selfie machine” called Xperia C3. The camera has a Snapdragon Quad-Core 1.2 GHz processor, wide-angle lens, picture editing effects, “sweep panorama” and replay capability called “time shift” ( it allows you to find the best moment to post), advanced real-time social sharing, portrait retouch and styles and the ability to create six-second “Vine” videos.
Now, if they could get it to blow dry hair, that would be truly revolutionary!
