Sitting under a palm tree in Dubai will not only provide you with shade but will also provide free Wi-Fi and keep your devices charged as well!
Dubai’s glitzy landscape is about to get a new kind of palm tree that is being installed at public beaches.
These smart palms will provide free, high-speed Wi-Fi within a radius of 53 meters. The smart palms will be able to support 50 users at a time and will offer a charging facility for eight users at a time. Each smart palm is equipped with a selfie camera on one of the palm leaves, as well as an emergency button.
The Dubai Municipality plans to install 103 smart palms on Dubai’s beaches to help tourists. Touchscreens on the smart palms will display information on Dubai’s other attractions, weather and sea conditions, beach rules, transportation, and other amenities in the region.
Standing six meters tall, each smart palm is powered by the solar panels that are specially designed to fit the shape of the leaves of the palm. At night, these smart palms will run solely on the stored up solar energy.
