American self-balancing transport firm Segway was bought by a Chinese robotics start-up Ninebot in 2015.
Now, Segway-Ninebot has made a sensational announcement that it plans to launch an electric sports bike that will also be powered by removable hydrogen canisters.
Termed the ‘Segway Apex H2’, this hydrogen hybrid bike is a futuristic-looking motorcycle that is seen in science-fiction movies.
This hybrid hydrogen-electric power-train will store hydrogen in tanks, converting it to electricity, and then store in a battery. The only by-product of this process is water vapor that will be released through the exhaust port.
Some of the features of this awesome eco-friendly futuristic bike:
- The new bike will produce 60 kW (around 80 hp) of power.
- Bike has a top speed of 150 km/h (~90 mph).
- Segway Apex H2 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h or ~62 mph in less than four seconds.
- The bike will be priced at around $10,700 (69,999 yuan).
- Deliveries are expected to begin in 2023.
- Segway is launching a crowdfunding campaign to get started with these bikes.
Honda and Suzuki are also working on hydrogen-powered automobiles projects that could be on the road soon.
