The Croatian electric hypercar manufacturer Rimac Technology announced that it will enter the stationary energy storage technology market via Rimac Energy, the new brand of the company. With a team of 60 employees built in the previous 18 months, Rimac Energy will bring the knowledge and experience of developing batteries for Electric Vehicles (EVs) and will offer battery systems with a new electrical architecture, combined with a 50% decrease in energy loss, and 40% decrease in the footprint of the system. The energy storage products will offer solutions to commercial, industrial, as well as utility-scale applications. Pilot projects are expected to be commissioned in 2024, while large-scale manufacturing of the battery systems will begin in 2025 at the company’s campus in Zagreb, Croatia. The company aims to be able to produce over 10 GWh of storage capacity per year.
As said by Rimac Energy Director, Wasim Sarwar, “At Rimac we have always been driven by innovation and a passion for pushing the limits of what is possible in the automotive industry. However, we recognize the importance of stationary storage solutions to power our planet sustainably. Given our track record in innovative battery technology, we believe we will play a vital role in building Europe’s future energy ecosystems, elevating it on the global stage.”
Furthermore, the CEO and founder of the company, Mate Rimac, said that “There is an urgent need for clean energy infrastructure to support the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid by providing storage and balancing capabilities,”, adding that “Given our head start in EV technology and dedication to sustainability, this path feels like a seamless progression for us. Our team is truly excited about creating solutions that make clean energy more accessible, as we strive to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels and foster a greener future.”
Further details will be revealed later in 2023.
