Parallel parking is one of the most common driving woes because it involves a lot of maneuvering your car to fit perfectly between two already parked vehicles.
A survey by The Zebra in 2020 found almost half of Americans (49%) have parallelophobia, or the fear of parallel parking.
Though parking sensors, mirrors, reversing cameras, and presence of mind can help the woes of parallel parking, many drivers prefer avoiding parallel parking.
Hyundai has a solution with its e-Corner System technology, you will never worry again about parallel parking!
Hyundai Mobis, the carmaker’s parts division, has released footage of its ‘IONIQ 5 electric’ prototype with the e-Corner System in action. The e-Corner technology enables all four of a car’s wheels to swivel up to 90 degrees, together or independently. That results in dramatic improvement of the vehicle’s maneuverability capabilities to perform parallel parking in tight spaces. Hyundai calls this “crab driving.”
The system isn’t yet ready for production, but Hyundai is planning to bring it to its future road cars.
“We are idealizing the e-Corner System in order to meet the demands for future mobility,” the head of the Future Technology Convergence Institute at Hyundai Mobis, Cheon Jae-Seung, said. “We will secure different types of customized mobility solutions that can be applied in autonomous driving and PBVs to solidify our vision of reaching new heights as a mobility platform provider.”
