Eight international architectural heavyweights were shortlisted for the Çanakkale Antenna Tower International Competition. Competitors were asked to consider the technological requirements of the broadcasting tower and recreational potentials of a public entity with equal emphasis.
IND (Inter.National.Design) and Powerhouse Company, in collaboration with structural engineers ABT, won the competition to design this 100-meter tall Observation and Broadcast Tower.
About the site:
The antenna tower will be positioned at the southern outskirt of the historic city of Çanakkale in western Turkey. The site for the proposed tower is on the top of a hill in a national forest reserve, overlooking the Dardanelles strait that connects Europe and mainland Asia. Once complete, the forested hilltop site of Çanakkale will be transformed into a public destination.
The antenna is a racetrack like loop through the heavily wooded landscape
Soaring through the treetops, the path will loop around the forest, offering panoramic views in all directions. It merges into the visitors’ center that soars over the trees offering breathtaking views over the city and the forest.
The antenna offers exhibition spaces, pedestrian walkway, observation decks and recreational facilities at the tower’s base in addition to an “iconic antenna tower.”
