Is MIT’s Shape-Shifting Snake Robot a Glimpse Into the Future?

Maybe there won’t be an army of humanoid robots who just all of the sudden one day take our jobs…

MIT’s friendly snake robot seems to be a more realistic representation of what could be in store for us in the immediate future.

The helpful little snake robot, called the LineFORM, is capable of transforming into a wide array of things from mobile phone to a data cable to a flexible lamp.

Researchers even believe the shape-shifting snake robot could find multiple applications in search-and-rescue missions.

Everyone walking around with their own snake robot would be a funny sight to see, but imagine it working as a charger or data cable, ruler, or a helpful tool in emergency situations. The idea doesn’t seem that crazy!

Right now, it’s just a concept from MIT, but I’m really interested in seeing where the LineFORM snake robot goes from here.
