In 2010, Ian Burkhart experienced a tragic accident in which he broke his neck on a sandbar at beach, instantly losing all feeling in his hands and legs.

Thanks to researchers at Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center, Ian was recently able to move his hand again for the first time since his accident years ago.

A chip in Ian’s brain, along with the help from electrodes and a special algorithm, bypass his broken spinal cord helping communicate and regain movement in his hand.
