The British automotive manufacturer Lotus unveiled ultra-fast Electric Vehicle (EV) charging solutions. These include a 450 kW DC charger, a modular unit able to charge four vehicles at once, and a power cabinet. The goal of the company is to achieve reliability and confidence. This step follows Lotus’ Vision80 strategy, previously announced in 2018, which has the goal of transforming the company into a fully electric luxury technology brand by 2028.
These technologies are liquid-cooled, and fast-charging solutions are already deployed in China. It is said that customers can easily upgrade to this power output without the need for additional hardware.
The CEO at Lotus Group, Mike Johnstone, said in a statement, “Over the past six years, Lotus has been investing in the technology and infrastructure to accelerate the transition to electrification. We want to make it easier than ever to own an electric vehicle and with our latest offerings, Lotus is able to provide customers with the confidence to access easy, fast, and efficient charging.”
The EV charging solutions include:
- Liquid-Cooled All-in-One DC Charger offering ultra-fast charging up to 450 kW. Hence, charging from 10% to 80% can be achieved in just 20 minutes, offering a range extension of 74 miles (119 km) in only 5 minutes when using a 350 kW Rapid Charger.
- Liquid-Cooled Power Cabinet, which is a modular power cabinet with power output capabilities of up to 480 kW, suitable for motorway rest stops.
- Liquid-Cooled Charging Unit, which is a charging terminal able to charge up to four vehicles at once when combined with the Liquid-Cooled Power Cabinet. Its maximum current output of 600 Amp, making it a convenient solution for all EV drivers.
Vice-President of Lotus Technology and CEO at Lotus Flash Charge, Alan Wang, said that “As more governments are increasing investment into electrification in their journey to net-zero, the demand for a reliable electric vehicle charging infrastructure has never been higher than before. Lotus has developed best-in-class fast charging solutions to deliver a quick and reliable charging experience to meet customer needs.”
Founded in 1948, Lotus Group is a manufacturer of luxury sports cars and is headquartered in Norwich, United Kingdom.
