German designer and carpenter, Thomas Mayer, has created an interactive ping pong table that utilizes two Playstation eye cameras and an HD projector to track the ball and ultimately accumulate data.
From here, the interactive ping pong table can literally display a player’s state onto the table in real-time, including speed, saves, stability, wins, and losses.
Incredibly, players can see their past shots and make in-game decisions based on the table’s data and projections.
And the coolest thing about the interactive ping pong table?
Mayer constructed it for his thesis project at the University of Design Schwäbisch Gmünd.
“It was challenging to design a functional interface which is projectable on a ping pong table taking in consideration the players’ ergonomics,” Mayer writes on his website.
“Project resolution, layout of the interface and arrangement of buttons were the biggest problems that I had to test in many prototypes.”
