The incredible video below shows a baby being freed from its amniotic sac, after being born.
The baby, who was born encased in its amniotic sac, took its first breath on camera. This beautiful baby can be seen moving its face, hands, and feet as it lay inside its membranous pouch. Doctors found the baby responding to their touch.
The amniotic sac is the sac in which the fetus develops in amniotes. It is a thin, but tough, transparent pair of membranes. The fluid inside it helps to cushion the baby from bump and injury, and also maintains a constant temperature for the baby.
Usually this amniotic sac ruptures as a woman goes into labor. However, 1 in 80,000 births is “en caul,” when the child is born within an intact amniotic sac.
