The U.S. military’s HTV-2 hypersonic aircraft exploded moments after taking off from a test site in Alaska early this morning.
Fortunately, no one was hurt as a result of the explosion.
Maureen Schumann, spokeswoman for the U.S. Defense Department, said, “The weapon exploded during takeoff and fell back down the range complex.”
The aircraft is part of the military’s “Conventional Prompt Global Strike” technology development program and was developed by Sandia National Laboratory and the U.S. Army in order to obliterate targets ANYWHERE ON EARTH within an hour of receiving intel.
Officials are working to get to the bottom of the accident so that a fix can be made as soon as possible.
