When you want to achieve success in an industrial field, you need to have a clear plan that sets you off on the right path to begin with. This will act as your steering document – something that may well evolve over time but has the bare bones of a plan in the first place. You can add more detail as time goes on. Essentially, it can help to set you on the right path and iron out any problems before they become too big to handle. There are several elements that make up an effective industrial project plan. Here are just some of the parts that you need to make sure you include.
Scoping statement
To begin with, you need an initial scoping statement that sets out what you intend to achieve with the project. You should look at your end goal as well as the tools and people that you may need to get there. It doesn’t have to be in too much detail at this stage, but it should provide a clear point of direction that you can follow. This can also be used to attract interest and investment in the project that you may need to get off the ground.
Define the critical success factors
Essentially, this means looking at the factors that will define whether or not your project is successful in the first place. A definition of this will help to steer you as well as give you a clear point of evaluation at the end of the project to show whether or not it has been a success. If these goals have not been hit at the end of it all, it is certainly worth having a better idea of why not.
Working out the deliverables
Next is the stage when you will be looking at the deliverables of the project. What is the client going to end up with at the end of the project? This is an essential factor as it will form the basis of the agreement that you are making with the other party.
Plan the work schedule and what you need
Perhaps you already have what you need to deliver success in the project, but there may be some additional resources or equipment, such as a compressed air dryer, that may well be required. You will want to ensure that everyone is firmly on the same page with what their individual requirements are if you are working with third parties. If you are planning as part of a team, you need to look at what you will be delivering, ensuring that everyone knows their responsibilities right from the outset.
Set the budget
Based on everything else that has happened up to this point, you should be able to set out a clear budget of how much it is all going to set you back. Obviously, this is important in ensuring that it does not all spiral out of control and end up being a loss-maker rather than a success story.
