When an NIF experiment is conducted researchers must coordinate up to 60,000 control points including electronic, high-voltage, optical and mechanical devices, motorized mirrors and lenses, energy and power sensors, video cameras, laser amplifiers and totalisers, and diagnostic instruments. A large scale computer control system integrates management of all of these variables and systems so that the experiment can be meticulously orchestrated and unification, compounding and channelization of laser energies takes place.
