Conor Walsh, head of the Harvard Biodesign Lab and lead researcher in designing the exosuit, has been granted $3 million in funding from DARPA. The team’s flexible, wearable robot is referred to as a “Soft Exosuit”. It’s a device unlike anything on the market at the moment because the suit is truly flexible, capable of being worn under regular clothes.
Other wearable robot suits or exoskeletons from ReWalk and Ekso Bionics are much more difficult to move around in, despite being extremely strong.
DARPA loves the design because it should allow users to walk or run longer and move more naturally with the body than other wearable robots.
The suit essentially straps around your limbs and you’re good to go!
