The California-based firm Aerofex has developed a hoverbike, ‘Aero-X,’ that resembles the one from the science fiction film ‘Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi,’ bringing science fiction to life.
This user-friendly vehicle is a hovercraft that rides like a bike
This hoverbike can reach a speed of 45mph (72km/h) while hovering up to 12 feet (3.6 meters) above the ground. This aerial vehicle has two ducted rotors instead of wheels. It is steered like a motorcycle and takes off vertically and lands without runways or forward speed.
The Aero-X can fly for up to one and a half hours. It is almost 15 feet (4.5 meters) long, 7 feet (2meters) wide and 4 feet (1.25 meters) high.
The hover bike does not require special training and a user can learn to operate it within a couple of days
The Aero-X has already been tested in the desert, and sci-fi fans could dream of riding these hoverbikes by 2017. Aero-X will be sold for $85,000 with a $5,000 refundable deposit.
This two-seater vehicle could be very useful for disaster relief, search and rescue operations, border patrol, rural areas and farming.
