The very first road-legal autonomous big rig is finally here thanks to Freightliner!
Called the “Inspiration Truck,” it will be the inaugural self-driven commercial truck to drive on American roads.
It’s autonomous license plate was bolted on by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Daimler Chairman Wolfgang Bernhard to commemorate the special occasion.
It is worth noting that there will be a person onboard the Inspiration Truck at all times, simply to monitor the truck’s systems.
That person will only be required to intervene with the truck and its technology should something go wrong or malfunction.
Freightliner’s self-driving truck requires no special hypothetical infrastructure, and it’s able to read road signs and traffic signals on its own.
