Self-driving cars are still a few years away from making their debut on public roads, but cars are already beginning to receive new technologies to make the transition as seamless as possible.
For example, Ford is introducing its Intelligent Speed Limiter in the UK which basically obeys the speed limit for you through a combination of cruise control and onboard cameras.
Ford’s new S-MAX will be the first vehicle to feature the technology, which allows a driver to set a top speed in order to never surpass a certain limit.
In addition, the vehicle will automatically increase or decrease its speed by paying attention to road signs, a perk of the car’s cameras.
If the car picks up too much speed going down a hill, an audible warning alarm is triggered, and the vehicle’s engine stops getting fuel until it slows down. Or, the driver can bypass the warning by pressing his or her foot down on the pedal.
This technology isn’t really for me, but I know a whole lot of people who could benefit from this technology big time! I’m sure you do too…
