No one seems to doubt Elon Musk and Tesla will be a major player in the automotive industry for years to come, however most people have expressed range anxiety when it comes to making the leap and buying a Tesla.
In order to ease the public’s fear, Musk announced a Tesla software update today that essentially makes it impossible for a driver to run out of range.
One of the new features, Trip Planner, communicates between the car and the Supercharger, in addition to its partner destination charging network, to warn the driver if he or she goes out of range.
It also handles all types of data from charging location to topography in order to provide extremely accurate range estimation information.
“It’s impossible to run out unless you do so intentionally,” says Musk.
Range Assurance, on the other hand, provides the driver with the best possible route based on the charging network, and when you’re plugged in, itĀ also shoots you a notification to your phone when it’s ready to roll.
So while the Tesla announcement wasn’t exactly the huge, groundbreaking event Musk hyped it up to be, it is comforting to know the new software update should effectively alleviate range anxiety.
