DARPA’s Ground X-Vehicle Technology program (GXV-T) is determined to develop armored fighting machines which are lightweight, mobile, durable, and capable of autonomously detecting and dodging rockets.
Recently, DARPA awarded contracts to eight institutions to further develop ideas encompassing the GXV-T vehicles.
Among the institutions are Carnegie Mellon, Raytheon, and SRI International, who will be tasked with designing GXV-T vehicles that are “mobile, effective, safe, and affordable.”
In the video below, you can see what DARPA has in mind for its GXV-T vehicles, of which being able to navigate across all types of terrain and semi-autonomous driving capabilities are key.
