Aerospace Jet Fighter The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a single-engine, high-performance, supersonic interceptor aircraft.
It has been used by the United States Air Force (USAF), the Air National Guard, NASA, and the NATO air forces of Germany, Canada, and Italy, primarily in the 1960s and 1970s. The USAF considered it deficient in range, endurance, and offensive capability, and many of the aircraft it originally ordered were exported to Jordan, Pakistan, and Taiwan. Later Starfighter versions gained the nickname Òflying coffinÓ for their high accident rate. Many air forces using F-104s eventually replaced them with the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
