Hong Kong-based PaperClipDesign has developed an innovative concept called the “Butterfly Seat”, in an attempt to add transformable seats to passenger airlines.
Many airlines are completely redesigning business-class seating for increased flexibility and comfort for passengers, while cabin seating remains the same with the exception of additional legroom being added here and there.
The main reason behind the lack of upgrades to the cabin layout in most planes is the fact that once the seats are installed, they are extremely difficult to change.
The Butterfly Seat hopes to change this by upgrading a passenger’s seat with the push of a button. For example, a passenger in business-class looking to upgrade his or her business-class seat to a first-class seat without actually moving to a different part of the plane can have the business-class seat converted on the spot by the airline.
