Being able to recognize yourself in the mirror is a sign of self-awareness and intelligence that only humans and few animals have.
In a recent test, animals were videotaped in the jungle seeing their reflections for the first time, showing the reactions of a silverback gorilla, jaguars, and chimpanzees.
As you would guess, many of the animals immediately see the reflection as a rival animal threatening them, which results in some crazy reactions.
Let’s just say I would not want to be the gorilla’s reflection!
The jaguars seem to just climb all over the mirror, and while it takes them a second, the chimps eventually recognize their own reflection, showing off their higher intelligence.
