Needles are used in some of the most vital procedures, but many people fear them. Many of these people even skip going to the doctor altogether due to this fear.
However at present when vaccines are more important than ever, such fears can make vaccination against COVID-19 very difficult.
So to make the health care workers’ jobs easier, scientists have introduced a robot capable of performing intramuscular injections. This robot is called Cobionix (Cobi for short).
Cobi is claimed to be a versatile robot that could make the vaccination procedure less intimidating. This robot not only performs injections all by itself but also without the jab of a needle. However, it uses a high-pressure liquid jet that is as fine as human hair, to inject the vaccine’s contents.
“Cobi is a versatile robotics platform that can be rapidly deployed to complete tasks with 100 percent autonomy,” said Tim Lasswell, co-founder and CEO of Cobionix, in a statement. “We outfitted Cobi to use a needle-free injection technology and to demonstrate that patients could receive intramuscular injections, such as vaccines, without needles and no involvement from a healthcare professional.”
Cobi is completely autonomous
Unlike most of the robots that work under the monitoring of people, Cobi is designed to be programmed to run on its own. It uses LiDAR sensors in its hand to scan the patient. This information helps it to analyze and decide the best spot for the injection.
Not only that, but Cobi also gives guidelines to the patient to help them prepare for the injection.
