There are many theories around the origin of Covid-19. But one of the most popular and convincing is that the coronavirus came out of a lab in Wuhan, China. Many epidemiologists and virologists believe that it was engineered by researchers and spread by mistake or design.
China has repeatedly denied that the virus escaped from one of its labs. It has even asserted that the virus could have originated outside China, including at a military lab in Maryland.
But a couple of days back, the Wall Street Journal, citing previously undisclosed U.S. intel report has reported that three Wuhan lab researchers sought medical care for COVID-19 symptoms in November 2019. This was months before China disclosed the COVID-19 pandemic.
The new findings have added weight to calls for a further probe of whether the COVID-19 virus escaped from the Wuhan lab.
The report came on the eve of a meeting of the World Health Organisation’s decision-making body to discuss the next phase of an investigation into the origins of COVID-19.
