Chinese automaker BYD Auto recently took the veils off an electric bus that is claimed to be the world’s longest battery electric bus. Bus is called the ‘K12A’ and it was launched officially at BYD’s Shenzhen headquarters.
Here are some of its features:
- K12A is 88 feet (27 meters) long
- It features a bi-articulate design to make it easier to get around corners.
- It can transport up to 250 passengers
- It has a top speed of 70 km/h (43.5 mph).
- BYD K12A can travel up to 186 miles per single full charge.
- It is equipped with BYD’s core technologies of batteries, electric motors and electronic controls.
- It is compatible with the global Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system
- It features an all-aluminum alloy body
- It is equipped with a distributed 4WD system, which allows the vehicle to be switched from two-wheel-drive to four-wheel-drive and back smoothly to meet the demands of different terrains.
- K12A comes with DC and AC charging ports that “can be switched freely to meet customers’ every need”
Stella Li, senior vice president of BYD, said, “Today, BYD once again uses its core technology, reliable products and innovative solutions to solve the two great urban ills of congestion and pollution,”
“The K12A will bring zero emissions to BRT systems, allowing passengers to enjoy quiet, pollution-free travel, while at the same time saving significant maintenance costs for operators.”
