SpaceX’s Hyperloop pod competition has officially been delayed after Elon Musk announced it will take place the weekend of Jan. 27-29 in 2017 instead of late this summer.
After many of the teams of engineers requested more time to work on their respective Hyperloop pod ideas, SpaceX decided the best choice would be to simply move the original date back a few months.
“While we are not developing a commercial Hyperloop ourselves, we are interested in helping to accelerate development of a functional Hyperloop prototype,” the original announcement for the competition read. “For this reason, SpaceX is announcing an open competition, geared towards university students and independent engineering teams, to design and build the best Hyperloop pod.”
The top teams remaining in the Hyperloop pod competition will be tasked with showing off their pod designs on a one-mile test track built by SpaceX in Hawthorne, California.
