Drones can’t operate on their own…they require our full and complete engagement.
But that’s all going to change now. Drones will go beyond being just a fun toy to something useful.
A Belgium startup, Fleye, has developed a fully autonomous drone, also named ‘Fleye.’ Fleye is touted as the “world’s safest drone” since it keeps all its moving parts well secured by tucking in the four usual propellers inside its spherical shell. The spherical shape of Fleye makes it resistant to crash damage as well.
Fleye can safely hover around in a room with moving people without hitting anyone. It uses an array of sensors including an accelerometer, GPS, sonar, gyroscope, altimeter, magneto sonar sensor, and a camera to detect the objects around it.
You can also control Fleye with your iOS or Android smartphone. But it is more of a ‘set it and forget it’ machine.
Recently, the project was launched on Kickstarter. Fleye is expected to start shipping in September of next year. The early bird pledge for the standard model begins at around $636.
