Research into solar power has helped build a new category of vehicles that are energy independent.
An electric vehicle startup, EVX Ventures, of Melbourne, Australia, has developed a futuristic looking solar electric sports car.
This electric vehicle has extensive solar paneling on its roof to give it enough juice to stay on the road without needing a recharge.
Called the Immortus, owners of this car will never have to worry about finding the next charging point. Immortus’ specifications:
- Batteries can be charged from the mains.
- It can generate its own power through some 7 sq m (75 sq ft) of solar photovoltaic paneling on its exterior.
- Immortus can reach over 60 mph (96Km/h) in less than 7 seconds.
- Immortus can run indefinitely if the sun is out, as long as the average speed is around 37 mph (60 km/h).
- It has a top speed over 93 mph (150 km/h).
- The two-seater Immortus has a modest luggage storing capacity.
EVX has not announced a price or a release date for the car. But only 100 units are expected to be made, each having a price tag around $370,000 USD.
EVX plans to raise $1.5 million USD to get production ready. EVX will also bring a scaled-down Immortus prototype to the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas later in the year.
