The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Pentagon is planning on increasing daily drone flights by 50 percent by 2019.
Currently, the military sends out 61 drone flights daily, with the majority of them handling some type of remote surveillance.
Increasing the amount of drone flights is required for the Pentagon to get more reconnaissance data from certain regions, specifically when it comes to monitoring operations in the Ukraine and the South China Sea.
While a very small percentage of the drone flights involve actual strikes, most of those strikes take place in Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
The CIA, which has its own drone program, isn’t quite as forthcoming as the Pentagon, and are believed to have the most advanced, deadly, and secretive US drones.
