Artist Ekaggrat Singh Kalsi has demonstrated a new system using a 3D printer and LED light to generate a light painting from a 3D model. Ekaggrat took only two days to complete the entire project.
How He Managed to do the Same:
3D printing on FDM-based 3D printers gives you a lot of choice of materials and colors. However, Ekaggrat decided to “print” using LED lights. He attached an LED to the print head of a 3DR Delta printer and wrote a custom script in Grasshopper 3D. This script takes any 3D model and changes it into a g-code that is used to control the printer with the LED. This g-code allows the printer move on a path and turns the LED head on and off without doing any actual printing.
There is no end product, but it’s surely an elegant piece of work. Check out the video below:
