Researchers from Harvard University utilized data from about 800 million stars taken with the Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii in order to create the largest ever three-dimensional map of our galaxy’s cosmic dust.
Specifically, the researchers mapped out the distribution of space dust across three-quarters of the night sky, and thanks to YouTube, you can virtually fly right through it all.
The fly-through videos have evolved into a series by the researchers, and if you are interested in seeing more, take a look at the team’s 3D Dust Mapping site here.
Thanks to this new data and amazing results, astronomers are learning more about the Milky Way than ever before.
