Swiss Post and Swiss WorldCargo are in the process of testing the viability of delivery drones capable of delivering emergency supplies to remote areas of the country and in natural disaster situations.
This press release details some of the plans for the drones, including the potential to be tasked with quickly transporting high-priority packages such as laboratory tests.
As part of a partnership with California-based drone manufacturer Matternet, a lightweight Matternet ONE model is currently being tested by the Swiss.
While Swiss Post acknowledges their drone delivery technology is probably about five years away, it’s good to see companies recognizing the good drones can do in the world versus focusing on the drawbacks.
