Bleeding is the leading cause of death on the battlefield; a soldier can die in just a few minutes. Getting care in the first hour can make the difference between life and death. Stopping the bleeding is the most important part of that care.
A new plant-based gel – ‘VetiGel’ – may be the solution. It can stop the bleeding within 15 seconds.
The gel was invented by 22-year-old Joe Landolina, a graduate from Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU). Currently being used on animals in veterinary clinics, VetiGel will soon be available for the military and paramedics to save precious lives.
VetiGel is a bio-absorbable gel that is applied onto a wound from a syringe-shaped applicator. It stops the bleeding instantaneously by closing the wound.
Each application of VetiGel will cost roughly $30.
