Cockroaches are menaces, plain and simple, because they can survive just about anywhere and are easily able to slide through tiny little openings in order to get in your house.
While they are nasty to watch scurry around, their biological design of being so thin is actually interesting, especially when it comes to creating a robot cockroach.
In the video below, you can see a robot cockroach jimmy its way through nooks and crannies, in part because it was fitted with a rounded back.
Chen Li from the University of California, Berkeley, and his team decided a rounded back would give the cockroach the ability to navigate through small spaces versus equipping it with a myriad of sensors.
I’m not sure what the practical application for these things will be, but I definitely don’t want a robot cockroach army invading my apartment anytime soon!
