The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the secret Google X Lab is working on developing new battery technology, with their main focus being on creating batteries that last longer.
New battery technology can improve just about everything these days, from smartphones to autonomous vehicles, to electric cars, and even tablets and smartwatches.
Tesla has been desperately attempting to move the battery market forward, but it appears as though Google thinks they can beat Elon Musk and his team of researchers to the punch.
In the big picture, Google would like to develop new battery technology that could be used across the company’s newer endeavors such as general healthcare, robotics, wearable devices, communications groups, and its self-driving cars.
The WSJ reports that the Google team dedicated to batteries only includes four people at the moment, one of whom is is former Apple employee and battery expert Dr. Ramesh Bhardwaj.
