This month, an industrial robot arm named RoboChop is on display at the CeBIT 2015 in Hanover, Germany.
Now, this would not be a big deal, except for the fact that RoboChop can take designs from a web app and then turn the designs into real furniture for the creators.
Four different robot arms will be provided 2,000 bright yellow polystyrene blocks, with the design of each individual block depending on the user who creates it.
Users can download the app and claim one of the 50 x 50 x 50cm blocks for themselves. What happens next is up to them…
For example, if you want RoboChop to create a stool out of your wooden block, the arm will utilize a hot wire cutting tool in order to make it happen.
Then, once your stool or whatever object you choose/design is completed, the object is shipped to the creator.

The entire RoboChop installation was designed in order to demonstrate the “Internet of Things” in real life.
Ulrich Dietz, the CEO of GFT Group, says that “instead of just talking about the Internet of Things, we will be clearly demonstrating … just how advanced the interlinking of the physical and digital worlds already is.”
