Parking sensors and cameras have been appearing as optional extras in new cars for a few years now. But Keio University in Japan has gone a step further by using the latest technology to render car interiors invisible while reversing a car.
Nothing is Hidden From the Driver While Reversing the Car
Researchers from Keio University have applied optical camouflage technology to a Toyota Prius, making the back seat of a car invisible.
How Does the System Work?
This ‘see-through Toyota Prius’ captures footage from a pair of cameras mounted on the rear of a car. This footage is then projected onto the back seat. The backseat appears transparent, eliminating blind spots by giving a clear view of any object behind the car.
Researchers are developing this technology further to make the entire interior of a car transparent, making people feel as though they are driving a glass car. They want to make this technology commercially available within five years.
