Today, more than 50% of the world population lives in cities, breathing air that is becoming increasingly polluted day by day. Luckily, certain types of plants can purify the air in our homes. But growing greenery can be a challenge if we don’t have the space, time or knowledge to maintain the plants.
Now a startup in Tarragona, Spain has found a solution for all of us who love plants, but do not have the conditions to enjoy them. The Citysens is a hydroponic, hassle-free vertical gardening unit that can grow plants without soil. It’s very easy to maintain since it has an automatic irrigation system that uses less space and water. Even the nutrients can be reused.

The Citysens garden grows up to 4 plants in the same space that would occupy one. It does not use soil; instead a mixture of mineral salts diluted in water is used. The Citysens garden collects the excess water and reuses it.
The Citysens garden is a 5-foot tower of four modules. Its base can hold about 6 liters (1.5 gallons) of water. The tower is made with bio-plastics.
The efficient irrigation system of the Citysens garden saves up to 50% of water and nutrients. The energy-efficient pump that moves water through the system consumes just $3 to $6 of electricity per year.
