A leading environmental and waste management company in the United Arab Emirates, Bee’ah, has commissioned Zaha Hadid Architects to build its new headquarters building in Sharjah.

The splendid 7,000 sq m building will seek LEED Platinum Certification by running solely from renewable energy sources. The LEED certification is a primary component of the company’s environmental goals. It will house educational facilities and exhibition spaces, serving as a learning center to promote environmental awareness in the area.

Design of Bee’ah’s building is well-suited to the surrounding landscape, offering its occupants a high quality of daylight and external views while limiting the exposure to the harsh desert sun.

The 18 m (59 ft) high building is shaped like a series of intersecting sand dunes. A large solar panel array will provide electricity to the building. Waste will be recycled in a nearby waste processing plant owned by Bee’ah that converts municipal waste into energy. An energy-efficient exhaust heat recovery system will channel waste heat to heat the building’s water.

The materials recovered from local construction and demolition waste will be reused for building the headquarters.
