Diesels generally do not set speed records but the 2.2-liter SKYACTIV-D four-cylinder diesel-powered Mazda6 is not your ordinary diesel car.
Three Mazda’s were driven at the Papenburg test oval for a 24-hour period last weekend, setting numerous records but mostly “average speed records over a variety of distances.”
The Mazda6 Diesel lead car exceeded 220km/h on the test oval in Germany with an average speed of 221.072km/h, easily beating the the previous record of 209.824km/h for diesel-engined cars displacing between 2.0 and 2.5 liters.
