There are numerous iconic gadgets, cars, and scenes from James Bond films and his 1977 Lotus Espirit S1 submarine car from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) is no exception.
While the scene is incredible and one of the most memorable from any James Bond movie, no such amphibious vehicle actually existed.
Ultimately, seven different cars had to be used in order to shoot the submarine car scenes which showed the vehicle going directly from land into water.
One of the three remaining land models just went up for sale on eBay for $1 million, a seemingly outrageous number, but fitting seeing how Elon Musk recently purchased one of his own last year.
While Musk plans to modify his in order to make it capable of transforming into a submarine car in real life, the one on eBay does not work on land, water, and it’s not street legal.
Whoever ponies the money up for this classic car will certainly be a mega-fan/collector of James Bond or have similar aspirations to Mr. Musk.
