Inspired by the ‘doctor fish’, a South Korean industrial designer has created a washing machine using a robotic fish. The system is called Pacera…it’s like a ‘washing machine aquarium’.
Pecera was designed by Chan Yeop Jeong of Daegu University in South Korea for Electrolux in a global design competition. Pecera is a collection of robotic fish called ‘Dofi’; it replaces detergent with the robotic fish in order to clean your clothes in a water tank.
The robotic ‘Dofi’ fish utilize sensors to detect dirt and grime on your clothes by way of a tiny camera. The fish swims against the dirt particles, essentially pulling the dirt particles off clothes through a suction motion.
Pacera also uses an alkaline liquid jelly to absorb the dirt molecules and prevent your clothes from becoming damaged or discolored after multiple washes. The whole process takes place in a fish tank made of chrome steel and clear reinforced glass.
The design is certainly more eco-friendly than available washing machines, as it uses zero detergent in its process.
