Google has purchased Lift Labs, the startup behind an electronic smart spoon. The Internet giant made the purchase in an effort to expand the Liftware product line.
The main goal behind Liftware is to compensate for people who suffer from tremors, Parkinson’s for example, by making small movements easier for a person to eat while he or she shakes.
Lift Labs will be joining Google X and was in the process of developing a keyholder, fork, and soup spoon before Google bought the company.
The startup says, “We’re especially excited to work with the Google team to scale our operations and reach even more people who could benefit from using tremor-canceling devices.”
Google is looking to extend the Liftware technology beyond simply eating, where it can help people who experience tremors in all aspects of life.
After the purchase of Lift Labs, Google wrote, “Their tremor-canceling device could improve quality of life for millions of people.”
