A decade after being launched from French Guiana, the European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft is now orbiting the comet 67P/CG, a first in space exploration!
In order for the spacecraft to get sucked into the gravitational pull of the comet, Rosetta had to complete a “close approach trajectory insertion,” with the burn process taking six minutes and 26 seconds from start to finish.
Incredibly, the comet Rosetta is orbiting is approximately 249 million miles away and marks a huge breakthrough in space exploration.
