Germany’s Autobahn has long been the destination for those who have the need for speed.
Now, Germany plans to start charging foreigners to drive on the Autobahn to the tune of about 10 euros ($13) for 10 days, 20 euros for a two-month permit and 100 euros for a year.
The charges will vary based on vehicle make, model, engine, etc.
It is estimated that 170 million foreigners make the trip to Germany each year, yet are not responsible for paying to maintain the roads.
By charging foreigners to drive on the Autobahn, Germany expects to bring in 2.5 billion euros ($3.4 billion) for its economy annually.
