The science of soft robotics is rapidly growing and the latest advancement has come out of the University of Illinois, with researchers developing centimeter-long biobots controlled by an electrical field and powered by muscle cells.
Incredibly, these new soft robots utilize skeletal muscle similar to the muscle-tendon-bone structure in animals and humans.
Leading researcher from the University of Illinois, Rashid Bashir, says, “Biology is tremendously powerful, and if we can somehow learn to harness its advantages for useful applications, it could bring about a lot of great things.”
