Mireia Gori Vila, a graduate student at the Royal College of Art, was tired of using bubble wrap or packing peanuts when shipping things because he realized both are wasteful.
Taking the matter into her own hands, Vila developed reusable flexible membrane wrappers in order to save time and money.
Essentially, you place your product inside of the stretchy membrane and Vila’s creation wraps around the items/items like pantyhose.
Vila says, “I was basically looking at how to get the best performance with the minimum amount of material. I didn’t know what it would be for, but I thought it had potential for protection.”
Eventually, through many tests, Vila found out that combining thin layers of prosthetic silicone with polyester power mesh created the perfect effect she was looking for.
According to Vila, “If you just used the power mesh, then you lack the grip and cushioning element; if you use just the silicon it would break if you stretch it too much. It’s when you put them together that they have this nice symbiosis.”
This could mean the end of bubble wrap as we know it!
